Plot[]
Short Summary[]
Turn off your mind. Relax and float downstream… It is not dying... It is not dying.
Details[]
Jane wakes up after surviving a gaseous ZIP bomb. Patterson gave Jane an antidote she'd been developing, meaning that Jane can still recognize the team.
Arla Grigoryan tells Weller's team that while the government is grateful for their heroism and she has secured total immunity for them, the President does not want them working for the government ever again. Then they learn that Ivy Sands has one last ZIP bomb. Grigoryan allows them to help with this one last time-sensitive case since they know it well.
Jane's search[]
Jane begins to hallucinate from ZIP poisoning. The antidote wasn't fully effective. She decides to track down Ivy herself. Hallucinations of Roman, Oscar, and other terrorists question her morality. A Reade hallucination assures her that his death was not her fault and that the previous hallucinations were manifestations of her self-doubt.
Jane approaches the cathedral Ivy and bomb expert Jesse Thomas were using. There, she hallucinates several weddings that will never happen, including Roman marrying Blake and Reade marrying Tasha. She finds and fights off Thomas' crew, killing Thomas by pushing him out a window. A hallucination tells her she is dangerous.
Kurt and Tasha find Jane and take her to Dr. Horne, who says Jane needs a higher dose of antidote due to her past exposure to ZIP.
Jane hallucinates Dr. Borden, who discusses the ethics of doing bad things for good reasons. Then Jane realizes she got ZIPped because she overheard Ivy and Thomas' plans. Borden tells her that she should be able to recall their plans if she keeps talking to her hallucinations. But Dr. Horne warns her that delaying the antidote could kill her. Jane decides to take the risk to stop Ivy.
Nas Kamal arrives to share intel on Thomas. Together, they realize the bomb is designed to fit in a trash can. Jane hallucinates a rabbit that leads her to a hallucination of villains at a table. They discuss whether the ends justify the means, with Jane believing they don't. She asks what they have to tell her and they show her a map.
Jane recalls Ivy saying that they will set off the bomb in Times Square. She tells the team.
Stopping the attack[]
The team searches Times Square for the bomb. Jane hallucinates many people from her past in Times Square, who keep looking or pointing in a certain direction. She goes that way and finds the bomb in a trash can.
Tasha tackles Ivy. Jane and Weller discover that the bomb is on a 10-minute timer. While they wait for Patterson and Rich to figure out how to defuse it, Jane wonders about what their future retirement could look like. Patterson and Rich have different ideas about how to defuse the bomb, so Rich says they should do what Patterson says because she is usually right. Using Patterson's idea, they successfully defuse the bomb.
Leaving the FBI[]
- "It's a miracle that we're all sitting here together. One wrong turn, cutting one wrong wire... could have gone bad. So many ways. So many times. There's some world somewhere where this dinner never happened."
- ―Kurt to Jane
The FBI applauds the team for saving the day. Jane received the antidote just in time and Grigoryan congratulates them all.
Rich, Tasha, and Patterson affirm how much they care for each other and they look at portraits of Reade and Mayfair. Kurt tells Jane their life can be whatever they want it to be, quiet or not. The team leaves as a new generation takes over the FBI.
After a time skip, the team enjoys a dinner together. Tasha's baby has been born, Bill Nye is teaching the kids about science, and Kurt and Jane are fostering children. Rich and Patterson are seeking a gold-making machine and Tasha is a private investigator. Kurt and Jane talk, and Kurt remarks how lucky they are to have survived everything.
Jane suddenly has visions: cutting the correct wires on the Times Square Bomb, kissing Kurt, and collapsing. She sees paramedics failing to save her, the team crying, and her being zipped into a body bag. Then the body bag is left alone in Times Square.
At the dinner table, Kurt asks if she is okay. She tells him she is.
